The School of Accountancy Research Centre SOAR held the groundbreaking Conference on Digital Transformation in Financial Markets as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations. The conference, which welcomed more than 300 participants from sectors including accounting and finance, business management, and regulatory agencies, facilitated an open dialogue between industry leaders, academics, and policymakers to explore challenges and opportunities brought about by digital technology advancements in financial markets.
This inaugural event was so well-received that the SOA Research Centre ints to make it a recurring feature on its calar. The aga for this year's conference titled Digital Transformation: Exploring FinTech and Regulation was packed with insightful presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions med at understanding how digital technologies are reshaping financial landscapes.
In the conference opening remarks by Professor Timothy Clark, SMU Provost, he set a welcoming stage for the event. He highlighted the significance of this gathering as a platform to foster dialogue on leveraging new digital advancements while ensuring robust regulatory frameworks. The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Sunny Verghese, Co-founder and Group CEO of Olam Group Limited. Mr. Verghese shared his insights on how businesses can navigate sustnability challenges in their quest for success through the lens of his company's experience in food and agriculture.
The conference was further enriched with two Fireside Chat sessions that addressed pertinent issues related to public-private partnerships and ESG actions, as well as strategies for measuring and reporting ESG performance.
In the first Fireside Chat, panelists discussed how cooperation between government and industry can effectively tackle environmental sustnability challenges while harnessing potential opportunities within digitalization frameworks.
The second Fireside Chat delved into practical approaches and innovative solutions for data analytics in ESG measurements and reporting systems, bringing together leading experts in academia, finance, and sustnable practices. The discussion was moderated by Ms Irene Liu from Accenture's Finance, Compliance Regulatory Strategy Consulting APAC.
The conference successfully underscored the need for continuous collaboration among various stakeholders to ensure that digital transformation aligns with corporate governance, compliance standards, and environmental responsibility.
